Why are
some employers hesitant to hire online degree holders?
Though online education may offer the benefits of studying a degree at
one’s own leisure, it does have its equal share of disadvantages.
One such disadvantage is the lack of recognition that work industries
tend to give to such degrees. Irrespective of whether the online degree
is a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, it is common to find the
majority of employers bearing a skeptical look to the attainment of such
degrees.
This is probably the reason why individuals boasting of years of seasoned
experience in their respective business fields, are denied of that well
deserved position they dreamt of achieving so long ago.
Of the majority of online degrees offered by online universities across
the Internet, a major 85% of them fall under the fraudulent degree category.
This is another reason why employers are skeptical when hiring personnel
with online degrees.
Most students attaining online business degrees carry out correspondence
with the faculties and colleagues through e-mail, and other communication
software. On entering the business world, they fail to live up to the
expected standards of the employers. They fail to fulfill the oral communication
factor with their co-workers and upper management staff.
Adapting themselves to the corporate environment through oral interaction
with their business colleagues becomes a whole new education process for
them. This is another reason why employers worry when recruiting online
degree holders into their organizations.
Finally, a major reason why employees pay less attention to individuals
with online degrees is because the degrees are not certified or authorized
by known universities within the state. Such degrees are considered to
be fraudulent ones in the eyes of potential employees.
