Why is there a need for an
accredited online degree program?
There is a need for an accredited online degree program as accreditation
is a form of validation process by which universities are evaluated against
a set of said standards so that it maintains the adequate level of educational
standards.
A set of faculty members of various accredited universities evaluate
the standard to award an institute with accreditation. The accreditation
assesses the institution’s philosophy, resources and its allocation,
student admission requirements, and the quality of the teaching faculty.
Whether the university you opt for has accreditation or not will help
you evaluate the standard of the degree or course you are opting for.
If you choose an un-accredited one, you might face a problem in acquiring
an appropriate job as the certificate might not be recognized by your
employer. In other cases, you might not receive the desired remuneration
by your employer. It might be as bad as you not doing the course at all.
The universities which are legitimate and have received accreditation
from legal accreditation bodies and which also provide online college
degrees, can receive online accreditation and are called accredited online
college degree.
It has been found that there are some schools as well as universities
which might have received accreditation but over a period of time they
might lose the accreditation for various reasons. Then the university
or school needs to consciously try and apply for accreditation for all
the degrees that it offers to the students so that it doesn’t lose
its credibility.
Distance learning programs in most countries are assessed in a case-by-case
basis, and will be included if they meet mGAAP standards which is synonymous
to Generally Accepted Accreditation Principles.
