New York School of Interior Design

NYSID has the largest interior design degree program in New York, but the school has a student faculty ratio of 10:1. This ensures one-on-one communications between teacher and student. Good communication breeds better understanding of concepts and a more focused curriculum.

NYSID has a variety of options in the program that allows students to take courses full time with a traditional schedule or take courses at their leisure toward the completion of the degree program.

One important facet of the interior design program is that it prepares the students to become licensed, certified interior designers through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification which requires an exam.

Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design

The interior design degree program at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design is organized with accreditation of the Council for Interior Design in mind.

It is liberal arts based education that concentrates on interior design courses, design solutions, design theory, space planning, structural analysis and problem solving skills needed in designing a vast array of interior and exterior structures.

Students learn the history of interior design, techniques and design implementation as well as gain the ability to present their design ideas in a real world setting. There is an introductory course in green design theory that can lead to a specialization in Green Design.

Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design

MIAD takes a holistic approach to design theory. In this interior design program every aspect of design is considered, discussed and planned. From idea to construction to efficiency to functionality all parts of the building design are taken into consideration.

There is a liberal arts foundation to the program but emphasis is put on the design aspects. Each student gets individual attention for their ideas and is advised on how to improve and implement them. At the end of the program there is an internship for each student at an interior design firm. This will form the portfolio that you will take with you to start your career.
